My name is Amanda, but I usually answer to Mrs. Christmas.
I have taught high school science for 10 years (though it was never part of my original plan). After earning my Bachelors, I spent some time working for a local tech lab, and it wasn’t for me.
I was offered the position of high school science teacher at a small private school, and I accepted, thinking it would be a stepping stone to my “real job.”
It was during that time I realized how much I loved being in the classroom, goofing off with students, and getting to do fun labs. I taught biology, anatomy, physical science, and—my absolute favorite—chemistry.
After taking some time off for my kids, I landed back in the classroom just to teach Chemistry (which is awesome!)
That said, I know chemistry doesn’t always feel awesome—especially for teachers trying to explain tough concepts and students who feel overwhelmed by it all.
This sparked the idea of CHEMcademy: a space to share the strategies, resources, and real-life classroom tips that have helped make teaching chemistry less stressful and a whole lot more meaningful—for both myself and my students.

Why This Blog?

This blog is designed specifically for educators (teachers, parents, tutors, subs) who want to make chemistry more engaging and fun without the added headache.
After years of learning what works, what doesn’t, and how to adapt when lessons don’t go as planned, I wanted to share the resources and tips I wish I had known as a first-year teacher.
At CHEMcademy, you’ll find practical ideas and ready-to-use resources that have been tested (and tweaked) through years of real classroom trial and error. If it didn’t work in my classroom, you won’t find it here.
